The Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Jerry Adams, has announced that Kaduna’s ₦62.49 billion in Internally Generated Revenue in 2023 was the highest in northern Nigeria.
According to him, Governor Uba Sani’s policies on financial inclusion, broadening the tax base, and reorganising the state’s internal revenue operations have driven this increase in Kaduna State’s internal revenue.
Adams made this statement while addressing newsmen on Saturday, noting that Kaduna’s ranking as the sub-national with the highest revenue generation in the north in 2023, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, was a well-earned recognition.
Last week, the NBS published the IGR data for all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, revealing that Kaduna state achieved ₦62.49 billion in 2023, leading IGR earnings in the north.
The KADIRS boss attributed this success to Governor Uba Sani’s automation of tax administration in the state and provision of essential tools to facilitate the process.
Adams noted that KADIRS now operates a One-Stop Tax Portal called “Pay Kaduna Portal,” enabling citizens to pay taxes from any location without the need to visit tax agency offices in person.
“This automation has reduced revenue leakages. By simply selecting the required tax option, a taxpayer can pay Withholding Tax, Stamp Duty, and others,” Adams explained.
He also highlighted that Governor Uba Sani’s administration has expanded
the tax base without increasing taxes in Kaduna State.
Adams disclosed that since July last year, KADIRS has been widening the tax base horizontally, in contrast to past vertical approaches that led to stagnation.
He maintained that the policies of the Kaduna State Government have significantly boosted the state’s IGR.
“The policies of the Uba Sani administration are people-focused, encouraging businesses and companies that had previously left Kaduna to return. Additionally, he has implemented many business-friendly policies that positively impact revenue generation,” Adams said.
Adams further stated that rural development initiatives by the Kaduna State Government have improved voluntary tax compliance “because people can see how their contributions are being utilised.”
“Our motto is ‘Tax For Service,’ and the current administration has exemplified this through commendable projects, including road construction, new school buildings, and other initiatives,” he added.
The Executive Chairman encouraged Kaduna residents to pay their taxes on time, particularly Property Tax and Ground Rents, and reminded companies to remit Pay As You Earn (PAYE) taxes promptly.
He added that KADIRS is well-positioned to enhance tax collection and further boost Kaduna State’s IGR, thanks to ongoing support from the governor.
