Harris’s team has started reaching out to the crypto leaders, signaling a potential shift in her campaign’s focus toward the sector.
The race for the US presidency is full of surprises, and it’s becoming clear that the outcome is anyone’s guess. While the former president has been rallying the tech and crypto crowds with his bold comments on AI and Bitcoin, Vice President Kamala Harris is also gaining ground by increasing engagement with field experts.
According to Polymarket, a decentralized prediction market platform, Harris has overtaken Trump in the odds of winning the upcoming US presidential election. Over the weekend, her chances of securing the presidency rose to 52% on Polymarket, while Trump’s odds slipped to 46%, down from a strong 70% in mid-July.
However, in the Senate race, Republicans are currently leading with a 70% chance of winning, leaving Democrats trailing at 30%.
Crypto in the Spotlight
The cryptocurrency industry has emerged as a major discussion point in the 2024 election, with both Harris and Trump positioning themselves in different lights.
Harris’s team has started reaching out to the crypto leaders, signaling a potential shift in her campaign’s focus toward the sector. As a California native with deep ties to the tech world from her tenure as Attorney General, Harris’s reputation as a pro-business politician could resonate well with the crypto community.
However, Harris has not been without controversy. In July, David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, accused Harris of privately referring to Bitcoin as “money for criminals”.
On the other hand, Trump, a staunch supporter of Bitcoin, has repeatedly expressed his belief in the cryptocurrency’s potential. During an interview last week, Trump criticized the US government for selling its crypto holdings, arguing that the country should be focusing on building its digital asset reserves. He noted the need for the US to stay competitive in the global crypto market.
Upcoming Highly Anticipated Events
It is important to note that the grassroots network Crypto4Harris is hosting a town hall to support Harris on Wednesday. The event will feature several prominent figures from the crypto world, including billionaire investor Mark Cuban. The event aims to rally support for Harris while advocating for a balanced policy.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk has announced that he will host a live chat with Trump on X at 8:00 p.m. ET on Monday. He revealed that his team is doing some system scaling tests in advance of this conversation. The event is highly anticipated by the crypto community, with many speculating that it could “break the internet”.
Musk has recently become a vocal Trump supporter, publicly endorsing the former president on X. Other Trump supporters include Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
