Zee Entertainment Enterprises is the co-producer of the film, Emergency starring Kangana Ranaut. They informed the Bombay High Court on Friday that it has agreed to implement the cuts suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Zee Entertainment agrees to suggested cuts in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency
Senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani who is representing Zee, stated that the necessary cuts will be made. And the film will be resubmitted to the CBFC for the issuance of its certification. Meanwhile, senior counsel Abhinav Chandrachud appearing for the CBFC, confirmed that once the revised film is submitted, it will be reviewed and a certificate issued within two weeks.
A division bench comprising Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla acknowledged the statements made by both parties, disposing of the petition filed by Zee Entertainment. “We have worked it out,” Jagtiani informed the court.
Background of the Situation
Emergency was originally set for release on September 6. It has faced challenges with the censor board over the non-issuance of a CBFC certificate. Last week, the CBFC notified the High Court that the film could be released if specific cuts, recommended by the board’s revising committee, were implemented. It was also noted this week that Kangana’s production company, Manikarnika, which co-produced the film, had agreed to the suggested cuts.

The biographical drama stirred controversy with Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal. They alleged the movie misrepresents the community and distorts historical facts. Zee Entertainment claimed in its petition that the CBFC had already prepared the certificate for the movie but had not yet issued it.
About Emergency
Kangana Ranaut has directed and co-produced the film, Emergency while portraying the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She accused the CBFC of deliberately delaying the certification process to postpone the film’s release. Zee Entertainment also alleged that the certificate was being held back for political motives, especially with upcoming elections in Haryana. The bench then questioned why the ruling party (BJP) would act against Kangana, considering she is a BJP MP herself.
