Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to tackling malnutrition and enhancing maternal and child health by releasing N500 million as counterpart funding to UNICEF for nutrition initiatives in the state.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, confirmed the release of the counterpart funding in a press statement during the official flag-off of the second Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week, held in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

In addition, the governor disclosed the allocation of N170 million for the renovation and upgrading of malnutrition treatment and referral centres to combat child killer diseases and improve access to life-saving healthcare services.

“This administration is resolute in its mission to battle malnutrition and prevent diseases that threaten the lives of our children. By committing these funds, we are taking a bold step towards ensuring a healthier and brighter future for our children and families,” the governor stated.

The MNCH Week provides essential healthcare services, including immunisations, antenatal care, nutritional supplements, and public health awareness campaigns, targeting the most vulnerable populations in Kano State.

Yusuf emphasised that these interventions are part of the state government’s comprehensive strategy to strengthen the healthcare system, reduce maternal and child mortality, and foster sustainable development and access to quality healthcare services in Kano State.

This landmark investment underscores the state government’s dedication to addressing critical health challenges and improving residents’ quality of life.
