Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Tuesday, received 30 members of two opposition parties – the Zenith Labour Party and the National Rescue Movement, who decamped to the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party.
Among the defectors are top-ranking members of the parties, who contested for various elective positions in the 2023 general elections in the state.
A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, said the former opposition members were warmly welcomed by the NNPP at a special occasion held at the Government House, Kano.
In their separate declarations, the leaders of the two opposition parties said their decision to join the ruling NNPP was informed by the governor sincere intention to build a viable society.
One of the leaders, Shehu Nuhu, said, “I’m convinced by the government’s laudable projects, especially in the health and education sectors, a major consideration to return to NNPP.”
While receiving the defectors, Yusuf commended their wise decision and conviction to admit the truth amid political gimmicks being spread by opposition parties.
He assured them that his administration would sustain its unwavering commitment to socio-economic development, especially across the critical sectors of the economy.
“What we are doing is nothing other than implementing our party’s manifesto, the Kwankwasiyya ideology and our blueprint. Be rest assured that you will be carried along in the NNPP’s affairs and policies and programmes of the current administration for the overall development of Kano State,” the governor assured.
