The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has urged the Federal Government to reduce the 2025 Hajj fare to enable intending pilgrims to fulfil the religious exercise.

The governor noted that the appeal was necessary given the economic challenges faced by citizens.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by his media aide, Sanusi Bature, on Tuesday in Kano.

Yusuf made the remarks during an event organised by the State Pilgrims Welfare Board to refund money remitted by Saudi Arabian authorities following a power outage during the 2023 Hajj exercise.

He commended the Saudi Arabian Government for the refund gesture and promised to send a letter of appreciation to the Saudi Kingdom through its consulate in Kano.

The governor also applauded the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria for its transparency and timely refund, while lauding the State Pilgrims Welfare Board for the successful organisation of the 2024 Hajj. He encouraged the board to sustain its achievements.

Having recently visited Saudi Arabia to perform the Lesser Hajj, Yusuf stated that preparations for the 2025 Hajj had already commenced, with efforts underway to identify areas requiring further improvement.

The statement also quoted Aminu Abdulsalam, the state’s Deputy Governor and Head of the 2024 Kano State Hajj Delegation, as praising the governor for his unwavering support of the pilgrims’ board.

Additionally, the Director-General of the board, Laminu Danbaffa, revealed that a refund totalling N375 million had been disbursed to pilgrims for the 2023 Hajj exercise.
