Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf casting his ballot

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has lauded the peaceful conduct of the Local Government elections across the state’s 44 local government areas.

The governor made the remark at the KANSIEC office after casting his vote in the Gwale LG on Saturday.

He expressed his appreciation for the support of other states’ electoral commission chairmen who monitored the elections.

The governor noted that the elections, which took place in 484 wards across the 44 local governments, were the freest in Kano’s history.

“This election is the freest in the history of Kano”, he said.

He assured that those elected would serve the people’s interests and that his administration would ensure good governance.

The governor commended the chairman and KANSIEC staff for ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections in Kano.

“When it comes to election there shouldn’t be any impunity and we should ensure that people are allowed to vote their mandate.

“I am appealing to the judiciary to continue being neutral when it comes to elections, it is not good for our judiciary to be partisan.

“Even though the Kano state government is the only Government which came into office under the platform of NNPP, we shouldn’t be intimidated, people of Kano are peace-loving people but if pushed to the wall, they can react.”

“We’ve seen what happens in Rivers, so we took proactive measures to ensure that a similar scenario does not happen in Kano.

Yusuf further urged the opposition to accept defeat, citing his party’s strong voter support.

“I want to appeal to the opposition to always accept defeat as we have the upper hand in terms of voter support,” he said.

An official of the Sokoto State Electoral Commission, Aliyu Sulaiman, also commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.
