As the local government elections in Kano approach, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has selected Sa’adatu Salisu from Tudunwada in Kano South as its sole female chairmanship candidate.
Sa’adatu emerged as the only female among the 44 successful chairmanship candidates that emerged after a two-week screening process.
Additionally, the party has nominated 484 candidates for the ward councillorship positions across the state.
Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, Chairman of Kano NNPP, confirmed the screening’s thoroughness and affirmed that the candidates are prepared for the elections.
“Our process involved congresses, affirmations and nominations, all of which were valid and accepted,” he said.
Dungurawa praised Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for his hands-on involvement, noting that Kwankwaso spent nearly a week in Kano to oversee the candidates’ selection.
He highlighted the party’s commitment to gender inclusivity, noting that Sa’adatu’s nomination reflects their confidence in women’s leadership.
“Women have proven themselves capable, and this nomination is a testament to that belief. We are optimistic about our prospects and expect a successful outcome across all positions,” he said.
