Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya has emerged as the new chairman of the Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News understands that the party had been without executive members for over two years due to internal conflicts.
However, Kibiya, who previously served as the commissioner for Agriculture under Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003, has now been elected as the PDP chairman in the state.
The election results were announced yesterday by Halilu Abubakar Mazagani, the chairman of the election committee from the party’s national headquarters.
Following the election, Kibiya achieved a significant victory, receiving 3,964 votes, while his opponent, Nura Nuhu, garnered only 244 votes.
Barrister Abdul Fatah Muhammad administered the oath of office to the 39 newly elected state party leaders, including Hon. Kibiya.
The new leadership is anticipated to guide the PDP’s activities in Kano as the party aims to enhance its presence and strategies in preparation for forthcoming political events.
In his acceptance speech, Kibiya expressed gratitude to party members for their trust and commitment to leading with transparency and inclusiveness to revitalize the PDP in Kano State.
The state publicity secretary, Professor Umar Faruk Jibril, stated that with the calibre of the newly elected executives, the PDP is poised to grow stronger.
“The party here is in need of repositioning and restructuring but this must be in accordance with the rules and guidelines of the party constitution.
“The party in the state does not belong to any rumoured camps being speculated.
“We don’t have time for any crisis now because we will be at the receiving end. We are competing to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and we cannot activate that if we are weak within the party,” he added.
Senator Hayatou Gwarzo, a prominent member of the PDP, asserted that the party is poised to seize control of the central government in 2027.
He emphasized that the vast majority of citizens are dissatisfied with the current economic challenges under the APC administration.
Consequently, he expressed confidence that through prayer, unwavering support, and collective efforts, the PDP will successfully establish a government in 2027, as it is the sole party capable of meeting the desires and expectations of the populace, who are yearning for meaningful change.
