The Managing Director of Kano State Radio Corporation, Abubakar Rano, unveiled his vision for restoring the station’s lost glory on Thursday.

Rano stressed that the corporation’s role extends beyond mere broadcasting; it serves as an institute for learning and excellence in broadcast journalism.

Adamu Rano disclosed this while receiving the Executive Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kano Council, on a courtesy visit led by its Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi.

Furthermore, he stated that his mission is to transform the corporation into a premier institution for learning and professional development.

Abubakar Rano also noted that Radio Kano surpasses its peers with its long-standing history of pioneering broadcast journalism in Northern Nigeria, recalling that the corporation came into existence prior to Nigeria’s independence.

“To achieve my vision, I have mapped out several missions, including ensuring proper utilisation of the organisational chart, staff training, and discipline, among others.”

“Radio Kano will continue to be a focal and reference point in broadcast journalism in Northern Nigeria,” he said.

While urging the new leadership of the NUJ to prioritise capacity building for its members, he hinted that, in pursuit of his vision, he has established a well-equipped training centre for journalism.

“The centre will be made available for the Kano NUJ to train members free of charge at all times.”

“The centre is equipped with IT facilities, an air conditioning system, and studio facilities.”

“My door is always open for the development and progress of journalism,” Rano stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Kano Council of the NUJ, Comrade Abdullahi Dederi, said the NUJ leadership visited Radio Kano to express appreciation for the MD’s support.

He said, “Today, I, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, Chairman of the Kano Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Managing Director of Radio Kano for his unwavering support during our campaign period and after our swearing-in.

“Your guidance has been instrumental to our success, and we appreciate your commitment to our growth. As we move forward, we’re excited to implement our five-point agenda towards elevating journalism standards in Kano,” he noted.

The Kano NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dederi, restated his commitment to upholding high journalism standards, fostering integrity, and advocating for journalists’ rights.
