Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, has issued a legal warning to Hashimu Dungurawa, chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), threatening a defamation lawsuit over claims of corruption and election malpractice.

The senator, through his legal counsel Sunusi Musa SAN, accused Dungurawa of tarnishing his reputation by alleging corruption, election fraud, and betrayal during a recent radio interview.

In a letter to Dungurawa, Sumaila demanded a full retraction and a public apology in two national newspapers within 24 hours.

“Our client demands a retraction and apology published in two national dailies. Failure to comply will result in legal proceedings,” the letter read.

Sumaila’s claims assert that Dungurawa accused him of misappropriating public funds meant for local projects, including water and a town hall stadium in Sumaila Local Government Area.

Further, Sumaila alleged that Dungurawa spread accusations of accepting $80 million from Honourable Abubakar Kabiru Bichi to influence the 2023 Kano State Gubernatorial election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The senator’s statement highlights that the alleged defamatory comments were broadcasted on Freedom Radio (99.5 FM) and widely shared on social media, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram, potentially reaching audiences globally.
