Meghna Gulzar is preparing to direct her next project after Sam Bahadur based on another real-life incident. According to a report by Pinkvilla, her upcoming film will revolve around the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case. The film will feature Kareena Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana.
The film centers on the 2019 incident in which four men were accused of raping a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad, near Hyderabad. The men were arrested and later shot dead by the Hyderabad police during the reconstruction of the crime scene. In 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that the encounter was staged.

A source close to the development stated, “Meghna has done all her research on the subject over the last few years and had strong source material in place for her screenplay. She was moved by all that happened. Kareena and Ayushmann resonated with the emotions and are looking forward to teaming up on this special project.”
The source added, “Meghna is aiming to start filming by the end of 2024, with a planned release in 2025.” The report noted that both actors have agreed to the project ‘in principle’, with the paperwork expected to be finalised within a week. This hard-hitting drama will mark the first collaboration between Ayushmann and Kareena, as well as Meghna’s first time working with both actors.
