Karrion Kross took the world by storm when he debuted in NXT during the May 6, 2020 episode as he came out to an epic entrance with Scarlett. It was evident that a lot of thought and effort was put into the entrance and Kross has now revealed how the entrance came together.
While speaking on NotSam Wrestling, Karrion Kross explained how his iconic NXT entrance came together by focusing on a solution-based approach. He and Scarlett took the music they received and rehearsed their movements to match each beat, working on timing in their apartment. When they arrived at the TV taping, they were told to just walk around and see how it felt, but they were already prepared, having planned everything in advance.
“I just took a solution-based mentality of like, ‘Okay, this is what we have. How can we make this work for the viewers at home?’ Scarlett and I heard the music. We got it on a file and rehearsed what we would do with each beat, how much time we had, right in our apartment. So, when we got to the TV, they told us, ‘Just go for a walk and see what it’s like.’ They had no idea we were already ahead of s***. We just showed up as prepared as possible.”
The first time they performed it, the entire room went silent and Kross and Scarlett exchanged a glance, wondering if they had gone too far or if the producers liked it. Several producers came over and said they thought they had something special, asking to watch it back. After viewing the footage, Kross was impressed and the praise kept coming for months. People continuously approached them, telling them was exactly what they needed.
“I remember the whole room froze the first time we did it, and her and I looked at each other, wondering, ‘Was that too much, or were they really into it?’ A bunch of the producers came over, and they said, ‘We think we’ve got it. We want to watch it back.’ We were like, ‘Sure,’ and when we watched it back, we were like, ‘Holy cow.’ Everyone just kept praising it for months. They’d come up to us over time and say, ‘That was it. That was it.'”
Kross and Scarlett focused on how their characters would behave in that moment, using the entrance as an opportunity to communicate the mood and essence of their characters to the audience. They wanted to tell the story of the characters and set the tone, which in this case, was one of doomsday.
“We just thought, ‘How would the characters behave with each other?’ It’s an opportunity in the entrance, like you said, to tell the viewers what’s going on with these characters. What’s the mood? And the mood was doomsday. That was the mood—doomsday.”
Kross and Scarlett’s entrance was more than just a walk to the ring—it was a perfect example of storytelling through character. By carefully planning every detail, staying in sync with the music and movements and staying true to their roles, they created an entrance that definitely grabbed the attention of fans. After all, the entrance is still talked about to this day and it’s not hard to see why.
