British reality show Celebrity Big Brother has reportedly recruited a contestant connected in high places, with the Princess of Wales’s uncle set to take part.
The Sun newspaper reports that ITV has been locked in talks with Gary Goldsmith, the brother of Kate Middleton’s mother Carole, with the businessman signing on the dotted line this weekend.
Goldsmith is reported to be keen to take part, having previously attempted to participate in another UK reality show, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
The Sun quotes an insider on the show saying: “The CBB team love him because of his link to Kate and the fact that he’s confident and loud and won’t hold back.
“He’s made it clear he will talk about everything and anything, and he’s pretty outspoken when it comes to Harry and Meghan.
“Gary also holds a deep affection for Kate and Wills and will be able to give a fascinating insight into what it’s really like being related to the future King and Queen. He could be TV gold and ITV knows it.”
Celebrity Big Brother launched in the UK on Channel Four in 2001. It moved to Channel Five in 2011, but was cancelled in 2018. It has now moved to ITV2.
Goldsmith’s fee is unknown. ITV previously paid controversial politician Nigel Farage a reported £1.5million to take part in I’m A Celebrity.
Kate Middleton was a bridesmaid at Gary’s first wedding in 1991, and he attended the weddings of both Kate and her sister Pippa. He has made controversial headlines in the past for his hard-partying lifestyle, but has always remained close to his sister’s family.
