Amid the ongoing power outages in the north, the Katsina State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rural Electrification Agency towards renewable energy adoption in Katsina State.

In a statement, Governor Dikko Radda, announced a concession plan to restore the wind energy project in Rimi Local Government Area.

He unveiled those initiatives during a roundtable meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja recently.

According to a statement by a Senior Information Officer at the Katsina Ministry of Information, Amina Bello, the signing of the MOU by the Katsina State Government established a robust framework for collaboration, aimed at accelerating energy access across communities and businesses in the state.

Governor Radda noted that the state’s geographical location offers exceptional renewable energy potential.

“Our state experiences some of the highest solar irradiation levels in Nigeria, and our wind energy project in Rimi exemplifies our commitment to harnessing these natural advantages for our people’s benefit,” he said.

He further disclosed that the state was actively seeking qualified partners to take over the Rimi wind energy project, marking a significant step towards optimising its efficiency and service delivery.

It was said that the REA would provide technical advisory support throughout the concession process, ensuring adherence to international best practices and maximising the project’s impact on local communities.

The PUNCH reports that commercial activities have been grounded in the north following the outage occasioned by the vandalisation of power transmission lines in the region.

Apart from Niger and Kwara, 17 states in the North are without electricity supply in the last two weeks.

The worst affected are Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Gombe and Katsina, who have not had electricity supply in the last two weeks.
