A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, under the leadership of Senator Yakubu Lado, has officially inaugurated its newly elected leaders.

Naija News understands that Alhaji Nura Amadi Kurfi was sworn in as chairman of the party in the state.

The party also swore in other officials at the event that was held at the PDP secretariat in Katsina following the recent state congress.

During the ceremony, Alhaji Kurfi expressed his gratitude to the national leadership of the PDP and Senator Lado for their efforts in securing victory during the 2023 general elections.

He emphasized his commitment to key priorities such as fostering unity, maintaining law and order, promoting internal democracy, and ensuring a fair environment for the upcoming 2027 elections.

This announcement occurs in the context of ongoing disputes, as another faction led by Mustapha Inuwa has pursued legal action regarding claims of member exclusion from the congresses.

Nonetheless, the faction led by Lado successfully conducted congresses at both the ward and state levels.

PDP Crisis: Damagum Gets Boost As Wike’s Allies Pledge Allegiance To His Chairmanship

Meanwhile, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, reportedly has the support of at least four governors.

Naija News reports that calls to replace Damagum as the acting national chairman of the party have deepened divisions within the PDP Governors’ Forum.

A senior member of the PDP National Working Committee who spoke to Punch disclosed that in addition to the backing of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Damagum has the support of at least four governors from the party.

He identified the four governors as Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State; and Agbu Kefas of Taraba State.

According to the source, while the Enugu and Zamfara state governors, Peter Mbah and Dauda Lawal, respectively, are neutral, the remaining seven PDP governors are pushing to oust Damagum.

The anti-Damagum governors are led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

With him are Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki; Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno.

The source noted, “Oyo State Governor Makinde leads three other governors who are friends of Wike, and they are backing Damagum to continue in his acting role.”
