Yesterday’s Sonic Central Livestream brought a ton of announcements from Sega as it dives even deeper into what it has dubbed “the Year of Shadow.” In addition to a three-part animated origin story, a DC Justice League comic book collab, and the hotly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 3 starring Keanu Reeves, fans will also have the opportunity to play as Reeve’s rendition of Shadow in the upcoming video game, Sonic X Shadow Generations.

During PlayStation’s State of Play stream, Sega announced Sonic x Shadow Generations‘ downloadable content in the form of a Sonic the Hedgehog Movie pack. In it, players can take control of a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie-accurate Shadow as he blitzes through levels inspired by the upcoming film. Levels, mind you, that look similar to the opening level in Shadow’s eponymous gun-toting PlayStation 2 game. Not only will the game mark the second time Shadow will serve as a protagonist in a Sonic game, its Movie Pack DLC has the added cherry on top of Shadow being voiced by Reeves. Yesterday’s surprise announcement shocked Sonic fans and game writer Ian Flynn, who’ll also be pulling double duty as the comic book writer for the DC-Sonic collab comic.

Sonic x Shadow Generations launches on October 25 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack launches on December 12. But if folks want to throw money at Sega to ensure they’ll have Keanu’s Shadow waiting in the proverbial wings for them upon release, folks can purchase the digital deluxe edition of the game for ten extra bucks ($59.99), where the DLC will be included alongside a digital artbook, soundtrack, and other goodies.

If gaming ain’t your thing, but you’re still game for witnessing Reeves provide his voice to Shadow and do a nifty Akira slide, you can look forward to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when it arrives in theaters on December 20th.
