Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called on the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently repair a collapsed bridge that connects Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states to the Southern part of the country.

Idris appealed on Monday during an inspection of the damaged bridge, emphasising that its collapse would severely impact traders and farmers who rely on the route for commerce.

“I am urging the Federal Ministry of Works to act swiftly and assist affected business people, as this road is the main link between Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Niger states with southern Nigeria,” Idris said.

The bridge, which collapsed on Sunday night, is located in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, on a major route connecting the Southern and North-West regions.

Idris expressed concern that the collapse would disrupt businesses in both regions and observed that motorists were being forced to take a longer detour through Dakingari in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

He urged the Federal Ministry of Works to expedite repairs to prevent further economic setbacks and advocated for regular maintenance of federal roads and bridges to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The governor was accompanied by the Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, Acting Head of Service, Hajiya A’isha Usman, Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed-BK, Commissioner of Works, Abdullahi Umar Faruk Muslim, and the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Mohammed Sani Aliyu, among others.
