Chelsea continue to be one of Europe’s busiest teams.
Despite already making 10 summer signings, the Blues, led by US billionaire owner Todd Boehly, are showing no signs of slowing down.
Although the London-based giants have a huge squad, one position they lack is the striking role. Enzo Maresca has options to play as his number nine, but an outright prolific goalscorer isn’t something the Italian yet has at his disposal, and that could, according to leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, force a late deal.

Even though Chelsea remain locked in talks to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, with the Nigerian preferring a permanent transfer and Chelsea offering an initial loan, it remains to be seen if the Napoli star will arrive at Stamford Bridge before Friday night’s deadline.
Fabrizio Romano tells Chelsea fans to “keep an eye” on Aston Villa star
Consequently, the Blues’ attention could revert to Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran. The Colombian ace was previously linked with Maresca’s side but failed to make the move. However, according to Romano, the Villa forward, who also came close to joining West Ham earlier in the window, remains a saga worth paying attention to.
“Keep an eye on the striker situation, as another player they still like is Jhon Duran,” he told CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing.
Jhon Duran faces an uncertain future. And amazingly, despite already signing former Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer and Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors, Romano believes another centre-back could be on their way to Chelsea in the final days of the window.
“And then a potential last-minute centre-back. It’s not guaranteed, it’s not sure, but they are discussing,” he added.
The Italian journalist didn’t drop any names, but with Axel Disasi emerging as a target for Newcastle United, it is reasonable to suggest Maresca is eyeing a potential replacement for the 26-year-old Frenchman.
