Last night at the NXT HeatWave Premium Live Event, the inaugural Women’s North American Champion, Kelani Jordan, successfully defended her championship against one of her close friends, Sol Ruca.

Following the win, Kelani Jordan told Sarah Schreiber that Ruca put up a tough fight and gave Jordan a competitive match.

“Well, first I would like to say to Sol that she definitely gave me the workout. I’m a bit tired, but she’s a Superstar. She really challenged me. And also, we’re friends. So, it’s pretty cool to be able to go out there and have a friendly but competitive match. And I think also, we do have similar backgrounds, but she’s one heck of an athlete. So, I don’t know where her genes come from. but she definitely made me have to pull some stuff out of my back pocket.”

Kelani Jordan also shared how much it meant for her to able to retain her title in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

“It means everything to me. Not only did I get to do it in front of this amazing crowd, but this was my first title defense on a PLE. And also, just a few days ago on the 4th of July, was my first-ever NXT debut against Taum Paxley. So, I think it’s just so crazy. A full circle moment that I walked into HeatWave a champion and I’m leaving, still a champion. And it’s just really a feeling that it’s really hard to describe. Because, like I said, in gymnastics, we don’t get our titles or accolades taken away from us. But this can be taken away. So, keeping it is something that I truly can’t explain,” Kelani Jordan said.
