Ken Shamrock was one of The Rock’s earliest rivals as the WWE legend began gaining momentum as a member of The Nation of Domination. Their clashes in the late ’90s are remembered fondly by wrestling fans, and Shamrock may have even been the first to take The Rock’s signature move, the People’s Elbow.
In a recent interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Shamrock reflected on that iconic moment, recalling how The Rock was still perfecting the now-famous move.
“It had to be,” Shamrock said when asked if he was the first to take the People’s Elbow. “That was a long time ago. I remember looking at that video. I don’t think Rock knew how to perfect it yet. I remember laying on the mat looking up at him going, ‘Bro, this is not a good sight. You don’t have to be standing over top of me with your legs spread pointing to the crowd that long. Make your move!'”
Shamrock and The Rock had numerous battles during their time in WWE, including a memorable showdown for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 14. Their rivalry helped further establish The Rock as one of the biggest stars in wrestling history.
