Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn’s careers have been intertwined for more than a decade now, which goes back to their days in ROH and PWG together. After becoming the Undisputed Tag Team Champions last year, their run ended somewhat abruptly. In light of this, Kevin Owens has voiced his disappointment in his tag team title run with Zayn.
Owens teamed up with Sami Zayn to secure victory over The Usos, claiming the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 39. They maintained their title reign for 153 days until they were defeated by The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest and Finn Balor at Payback 2023.
While speaking to Alex McCarthy of Mail Sport, Owens was asked how he felt about the tag title reign. Kevin Owens stated that he and Sami worked hard to headline RAW every week, creating main events that captivated the audience.
The Prizefighter emphasized their success, acknowledging that while he doesn’t usually boast about his achievements, he believes they accomplished many noteworthy things as champions. Owens highlighted that these accomplishments often went unnoticed because they took place on RAW rather than on pay-per-views or under the bright lights, thereby expressing his disappointment.
“Me and Sami worked our asses off to give main events on RAW every week that had people going wild and we succeeded, and I’m not one to toot my own horn, I really am not, but I think Sami and I did a lot of special things as champions that went under the radar because they weren’t on pay-per-views,” Owens said. “They weren’t under the big bright lights. They were usually on RAW.”
Kevin Owens participated in the Men’s Elimination Chamber match but came up short, while Sami Zayn is still trying to find his feet as a singles star again. It remains to be seen whether the two will ever team up again somewhere down the line.
