Key details of agreement between Barcelona and Girona for 22-year-old’s transfer

Barcelona made their first transfer of the ongoing summer transfer window official earlier this week in the form of Pau Victor.

The young striker, who left his mark on Barça Atletic last season, returned to the club for a fee of €2.5 million. Notably, however, this time he arrived as a new signing for the first team.

Considering that the Blaugrana forfeited their option to make the player’s signing permanent for €3 million by not triggering it before April 1st, it was puzzling how Girona agreed to a lower fee over three months later.

Mundo Deportivo provides an update on the same, revealing that there is more than appears to the naked eye.

An interesting clause

As relayed by the media outlet, Barcelona and Girona now share the rights of Pau Victor as per the terms of the new agreement reached between the two clubs.

For the first season, both Catalan entities retain 50% of Victor’s rights, meaning that any transfer fee will be split equally between the two clubs.

For the 2025-26 season, Barcelona will have 70% of Victor’s rights while Girona retain the remaining 30%.

Needless to say, this could prove to be a costly clause for Barcelona but appears to be the price they must pay for not meeting the deadline on their option to sign Victor back in April.

Decision in preseason

While the club did indeed rope in the Girona star for the first team, it is unclear what role he will play in Hansi Flick’s plans next season. A decision will be taken in the upcoming US pre-season tour.

Based on the player’s performance in the upcoming weeks, the management will take a call on whether to keep the player with the first team or loan him out for one year. After all, several clubs are interested in his signing.

Given the split of the player’s rights, it is in Barcelona’s best interest to keep the young striker in the loop. Needless to say, Vitor Roque’s future will also play a vital role in the decision.
