Kieran Trippier isn’t having any of it.
The Newcastle United and England defender reacting after Sunday’s defeat to Spain.
After the very one-sided final, Gareth Southgate used the excuse that some of his players were ‘a little bit short of their physical peak’ when it came to participating in the Euros.
However, Kieran Trippier has followed on from that and said that England can’t be using tiredness as any excuse for what has happened in Germany.
Kieran Trippier:
“The team that we have got is fit.
“If you look at the running stats, I think we are probably the highest in the whole tournament.
“So that (tiredness) is not an excuse.
“Spain get the second goal and it is always difficult when you’re chasing the game against a team like Spain.
“Football is all about fine margins.
“It is one of those where the lads gave everything.
“The young players will have learned a great deal from his tournament, they stepped up in big moments for us.
“They can learn a lot from this.
“It will make them grow.”
It is feeble for Gareth Southgate or anybody else looking to blame tiredness as an excuse for England.
Rodri was almost ever-present for Manchester City last season and yet he has been player of the tournament, as Spain won all of their seven matches in Germany.
