Ahead of Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League encounter against FC Barcelona midfielder and one of the team captains, Joshua Kimmich, spoke to the media during a press conference,
It is no secret that Kimmich is a player that Barcelona admire and have been keeping tabs on him as his contract with Bayern expires next year. Discussing the possibility of signing for them, the German said:
“In football, you can never make the mistake of ruling out possibilities. Now, to answer directly, I’m not thinking about it at this moment, but in footbal, you should never rule anything out.”
Regarding Barcelona and reuniting with his former manager and mentor Hansi Flick, Kimmich noted:
“It’s surely strange to play against him. It’s a special moment, it’s always special to play against Barça. In recent years, we’ve played against them quite a few times. It will be interesting to reunite with Hansi, and we’re excited about it.”
Continuing, he added: “As I just said, playing against Barça is always something very special. I’ve been linked with Barça several times, but it’s not more special because of that.
“It’s special because it’s a very important club, with a very rich and successful tradition, and with a very good team.”
Shedding light on his admiration for Barcelona, Kimmich highlighted the club’s golden era under Pep Guardiola and named former manager Xavi Hernandez as his idol.
“Barça left a mark on me, and Spain too. They won three major tournaments in a row, and, above all, Xavi Hernandez was my idol when I was little. I always loved watching his matches,” he said.
“Then, Pep Guardiola, with the tiki-taka, was like a revolution, because of how they managed to dominate their opponents. To this day, I believe it’s an example to follow for many clubs.”
Regarding the status of his contract renewal, he said: “Everyone knows, what I discuss with the club is an internal matter, I don’t share it with everyone.”
During the presser, the Bayern Munich superstar also talked about Barcelona youngster Marc Casado being compared to him and being called ‘Kimmich’, saying:
“I’ve heard that he is called Kimmich, but I haven’t seen any Barça games because I have children at home and I have to go to bed early. The people in charge of the video will inform us how Barça plays.”
