Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was at it again Sunday as he continued to dazzle onlookers with yet another stunning performance.

The 18-year-old is a permanent fixture in the side under Erik ten Hag and he is proving his importance to the current setup each week.

Last time out against Liverpool, he made headlines with his performance and was even promoted to the England senior side as a result.

Now, he has laid down a marker once more against United’s fierce rivals, scoring a sensational curler to give United the lead in the game. He has now delivered his post-match verdict on the game after yet another dramatic ending to a United game.

“It left us disappointed. We worked hard to get into the game after a tough first half,” Mainoo is quoted as saying by the BBC.

“We have given it away, ultimately we wanted the three points and it’s a big game for us coming to the end of the season.

“To not come away with three points is tough to take. Again penalties have cost us, but we have to keep on working ironing out these details that keep costing us and keep trying to get better.”

When quizzed further on his goal, Mainoo explained how he was trying to catch the Liverpool goalkeeper off guard: “When Aaron Wan-Bissaka gave me the ball I thought the keeper wouldn’t think I would shoot so I laid it off and it felt good – luckily it went in,” he added.

United now have a week’s rest before a trip to face Bournemouth next weekend. A top-four finish is almost certainly out of reach at this point but it’s absolutely paramount that United keep some form of momentum going.

There is still a chance of winning the FA Cup, with the Reds having a trip to Wembley to look forward to as Coventry City stand in the way of back-to-back FA Cup finals.
