Erik ten Hag has provided the latest team news ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Dutchman watched his side draw 3-3 with FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for two yellow cards and Harry Maguire scored an equaliser late in stoppage time.
United are now preparing to try bounce back for the trip to Villa Park, whereas the hosts have been flying it this season, despite missing a chance to go joint-top of the Premier League last weekend.
Unai Emery’s side come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over FC Bayern Munich in the Champions League thanks to a superb goal by Jhon Duran.
Ten Hag spoke to the media following our latest European encounter, dropping hints over who could feature against Villa this weekend.
“So we had three players with issues going into this game,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by ManUtd.com.
“Harry Maguire, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Harry and Alejandro made the squad and were capable to play some minutes, whereas Mainoo didn’t make it. It was too big a risk.
“We have to wait and see if he [Mainoo] can play on Sunday. If he is fit enough to start or be on the bench.”
United, however, have been given a boost in terms of the 19-year-old’s fitness, with our no.37 fit enough to train in Portugal earlier today. Mainoo missed the game after coming off injured against Tottenham in the 3-0 defeat last weekend.
Another player to miss out during the week was Mason Mount. It remains to be seen if he will make the squad this weekend.
Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund made his first start of the season against Porto, scoring United’s second goal against the Portuguese side.
