Kobbie Mainoo and midfield counterpart Casemiro will have to undergo late fitness tests to determine their involvement in Manchester United’s clash with Brentford on Saturday evening.

The teenager is fresh off the back of another career milestone after he was awarded his senior international debut and first England start by Gareth Southgate over the past week, playing a total of 89 minutes across both matches.

Since returning to Carrington, Mainoo has fallen ill and is, therefore, a doubt to feature against the Bees, as it stands. He was unable to train with the squad on Thursday, although there are hopes that he could make the cut given the evening kick-off time of 8pm.

Ten Hag says Kobbie Mainoo missed training on Thursday through illness but could be fit for Brentford. ‘I don’t know, we hope. Today he is here, not fully recovered but we still have many hours before tomorrow with kick off at 8pm.’ #mufc

Ten Hag’s midfield partnership is up in the air

Similarly, Casemiro was ruled out of United’s triumphant FA Cup win over Liverpool prior to the international break, which led to him being omitted from Brazil’s squad for their two friendlies.

Erik ten Hag confirmed in his press conference on Friday that the 32-year-old will also be assessed on Saturday.

Ten Hag on Casemiro’s fitness: ‘He is now in some sessions on the pitch and also yesterday some sessions in the team training. So he is making good progress. We have to assess when we go tomorrow if he starts or we wait.’ #mufc

Should both players be deemed unavailable, Scott McTominay will presumably start again, and Mason Mount could perhaps be thrown into the mix, having made his long-awaited return against the Merseyside outfit.
