Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has urged candidates and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress to work towards ensuring the total victory of the party in the Local Government Council election scheduled for October 19.

Ododo made this statement during the state-wide campaign launch for the election, held at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Thursday. Joined by party leaders from the three senatorial districts of the state, the governor used the occasion to present the APC-led administration’s scorecard.

He highlighted his administration’s successful implementation of a 40 per cent affirmative action for women in elective positions. The APC has reserved all vice-chairmanship positions and at least four councillorship seats in each of the 21 local government areas for women.

The governor also noted that the appointment of Ward Special Assistants and Local Government Special Assistants has effectively returned governance to the grassroots.

Ododo called on the people of Kogi State to embrace peace and remain united behind the APC-led government, assuring that the party would continue to use the state’s resources to alleviate poverty and build on the government’s achievements across various sectors.

According to Ododo: “Our state is blessed with abundant mineral resources and human capital to lift us out of poverty. We must work hard to consolidate the solid foundation laid by my predecessor and the immediate past administration in various sectors by supporting the APC.

“Come October 19, 2024, I urge you to come out and vote en masse for all APC chairmanship candidates across the 21 local government areas, and for our councillorship candidates in the 239 electoral wards, so that we can continue building on our achievements as a state under the APC.”

Ododo also commended President Tinubu for his efforts in addressing the nation’s economic crisis and assured that Kogi State would continue to align with policies aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Earlier, Abdullahi Bello, the state chairman of the APC, praised Ododo for his exemplary performance, which he said had made the election campaign easier for the party.

He urged members to embark on door-to-door campaigns to secure victory in the forthcoming election.

The event, which drew a large turnout of APC members from the 21 local government areas of the state, also saw the defection of Salman Idris, who represents Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, from the African Democratic Congress to the APC.

A highlight of the occasion was the presentation of APC flags to the chairmanship candidates from the 21 local government areas by Governor Ododo.
