While the entire nation is celebrating its 78th Independence Day today, some are still fighting for the safety of women in this country. Recently, a horrifying rape and murder case in Kolkata shook the nation and Bollywood celebs react and feel that there’s no independence for females in this country. Several Bollywood stars like Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Ileana Dcruz, Khushi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Dia Mirza. Murnal Thakur, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Varma, Kareena Kapoor Khan and others have expressed their anger over the case.

They took to their social media and shared heart-wrenching posts about the case. Referring to the Nirbhaya case, Kareena said, “12 Years later, the same story, the same protest but we are still waiting for change.” Alia Bhatt shared a long post and a part of it read, “Another brutal rape. Another day of realisation that women are not safe anywhere. Another horrific atrocity to remind us that it’s been over a decade since the Nirbhaya tragedy but still nothing much has changed.

Details about the case

According to the reports, a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. Her family claimed that she was raped and murdered as 150 mg of semen was found in the victim’s body. Since then a protest has erupted in the streets of Kolkata, demanding justice. A civic volunteer has been arrested in the case. On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court ordered that the investigation into the case be transferred from Kolkata Police to the CBI.

On Wednesday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to solve the Kolkata rape and murder case. She demanded hanging the culprits by August 18.
