Koundé, the incredible twist

FC Barcelona appears to be heading towards a summer that will see at least one or two major sales this year

It does not seem impossible that the Catalan club is ready to sell more players from its squad than it is determined to keep. Jules Koundé is part of this first category. The Frenchman has been one of Barca’s key recent signings, arriving from Sevilla for over €50 million.

While he was part of a rock-solid defense last season, where he spent most of his time at right-back, he has struggled this season. Whether at the right-back position or in central defense, Koundé continues to make seemingly explainable errors compared to his time at Sevilla FC.

Overtaken by the competition

MD therefore claims that Barcelona will study offers for him this summer, depending on the amount offered. Importantly, they believe Koundé will do the same, given the need to sell.

The fact that he does not want to play at right-back, while his performances do not justify a place in the middle of defense given the competition, contributes to this. Ronald Araujo sits first in the pecking order, while Inigo Martinez and Andreas Christensen have both surpassed Koundé this season. Even youngster Pau Cubarsi has looked more accomplished in recent weeks.
