One of the top heels in AEW is the Galaxy’s Greatest Alien Kris Statlander. She has been a part of the Jacksonville-based promotion since 2019. Statlander recently shared that it was former AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF who paved the way for her AEW run.

While speaking on The Sick Podcast with Andy McNamara, Kris Statlander mentioned that prior to AEW, MJF was the one familiar with her work. They built a friendship during their time at Create A Pro Wrestling. She was convinced that Friedman vouched for her and gave her the opportunity to work at AEW.

“Because of my great friendships with the people that I trained with at Create A Pro with one person in specific, MJF. He actually, I’m pretty sure is the one that like vouched for me because he had signed right from day one with AEW. And I was a few months into being signed. So, I think he is the one that really got my name in there.”

Kris Statlander was in shock that Kenny Omega had seen her compete in the independent scene

During the same interview, the former AEW TBS Champion mentioned that AEW was impressed with her training session. They instantly told her that they want to sign Statlander. Statlander was surprised that they are ready to offer her a contract even before competing in a single match.

“I got booked to do a Dark Match one day. And I’d shown up. I’d done some training in the ring earlier with some of the other girls. And right away they were like, ‘We need…’ Like, they were calling me to the side and they were like, ‘All right. Let’s get it going. You… We want you.’ I was like, ‘I haven’t even wrestled a match yet. Are you sure? Do you want to do this?’”

Statlander also shared that she ran into Kenny Omega that day and he mentioned that he has seen some of her matches.

“I was like, ‘Holy crap! I don’t know how all of you know who I am because I… I’m just some girl that found wrestling and trying to do it.’ So, I was just very taken aback. Kenny Omega! He came up to me and he was like, ‘Oh, I’ve watched some of your matches.’ And I was just like, ‘What? You know who I am?’ That’s crazy,” Kris Statlander said.
