Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, have congratulated the elected chairmen and councillors in the Saturday local government elections in the state.

The governor in a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Sunday, said the newly elected 16 chairpersons and 193 councillors deserved their victories at Saturday’s election.

The governor also congratulated all the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress on the successful outing at the polls, which he linked to the strides of the government, the support of every party member and stakeholder, and the sustained relationships that the party built with the Kwara people.

The governor also commended the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission and the security agencies for the peaceful and hugely successful exercise.

“I’m confident that insights and experiences from the exercise will help to improve future elections in the state and across the country, especially since the leadership of other states’ electoral commissions observed the exercise across the state.

“I commend Kwarans for their large turnouts for the election, their support for the APC, and their decent conduct while it lasted.

“I thank all the political parties for their impressive participation and sportsmanship,” the governor was quoted as saying.

In a separate press statement, Danladi-Salihu said the APC victory was a testament to the party’s acceptance in the state.

The speaker, in a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Sheu Abdulkadir Yusuf, said, “APC victory is a testament to the general acceptance of the ruling party under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq by the people.”

He urged the newly elected public officers to hit the ground running by delivering more dividends of democracy to the grassroots and complementing the good work of the governor.
