The Kwara State Government has called on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to improve its service delivery to customers.

The state Commissioner for Energy, AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, stated this on Tuesday, when the new Kwara State Regional Head of the IBEDC, Toyin Akinyosoye, and his team visited him in Ilorin.

AbdulGaniy told the regional head, “You need to improve on your service because we have many issues that have been brought to the ministry by some communities. People complained about outrageous bills and the unavailability of electricity, which is posing a downturn for some businesses.

“Now that the Electricity Act has been passed, states are now empowered to generate, transmit and distribute electricity, which may lead to competition in the energy sector among stakeholders.”

The Director of Electrical Engineering, Anthony Alago, noted that the Kwara State Government had given transformers to communities, yet most of the communities had not been connected to the national grid by the IBEDC.

“Please ensure you provide more power supply in the state to alleviate the sufferings of the residents,” Alago pleaded.

Responding, Akinyosoye assured the commissioner that the existing network structure would be strengthened, and immediate action would be taken on some issues, including the metering of some ministries.
