EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Kyle Chandler is in negotiations to star in Lanterns, HBO‘s high-profile series based on the Green Lantern DC comics, sources tell Deadline.
No one is commenting but I hear Chandler is poised to play Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern character that was played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie.
The series, from Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King, follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Search for an actor to play John Stewart is still ongoing.
The eight-episode Lanters is produced by Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy will serve as showrunner; Lindelof and King will co-write. All three exec produce.
Chandler, an Emmy winner for his signature role on Friday Night Lights, also starred in Bloodliine, Catch-22 and Super Pumped. In features, he will next be seen in Back In Action and Anniversary. He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
