Kylian Mbappé doesn’t stop. After becoming the majority shareholder in Caen, the Real striker would like to invest in basketball.
Kylian Mbappé is no longer just a football player. He is also an investor, and he showed it by acquiring 80% of the shares of Stade Malherbe de Caen in recent days. The new Real Madrid striker and captain of the French team knows that he has a global media following and it seems that the desire to tackle a sport that is barely less international than football is tickling him. According to information from France Info and journalist Julien Froment, the now ex-Paris Saint-Germain striker would like to get involved in basketball.
No NBA franchise buyout in sight – they mostly have an estimated value of between 2 and 5 billion euros – but a local anchoring around the capital and its club, Paris Basketball. In full sporting and economic progress, the Parisian team is said to have had discussions with Kylian Mbappé very recently, as part of a possible entry into the club’s capital.
Tony Parker as a role model?
The Bondy native really likes basketball, especially the NBA. He has been seen interacting with LeBron James and, of course, Victor Wembanyama in recent years, with a certain appetite for the United States. He also appeared “courtside” during a match between the Metropolitans and Paris Basketball in May 2023.
For now, nothing is finalized with Paris Basketball, but the idea of getting involved in different projects and sports in the manner of Tony Parker is clearly part of Kylian Mbappé’s ambitions. The former Spurs point guard was once president of OL Groupe, before Olympique Lyonnais was sold to John Textor.
On the sporting front, the 25-year-old striker has been officially registered on the La Liga roster since the beginning of the week, which will allow him to be in action from August 18 with Real Madrid to face Mallorca on the first day of the championship.
