Kylian Mbappe endured a poor La Liga debut as boss Carlo Ancelotti named a Real Madrid ‘problem’ after the 1-1 away draw at RCD Mallorca on Sunday.

Mbappe failed to have an impact, looked isolated at times and is clearly still trying to build up chemistry with his teammates after he joined the club this summer.

The French superstar’s best moments came from the left wing – and he made some interesting runs – but never really got a chance to make something happen.

Mbappe was playing his first Spanish top-flight match for Real Madrid and was making his second appearance after scoring in the Super Cup win over Atalanta.

But it didn’t go to plan for Los Blancos as the champions of Spain and Europe were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw in their opening La Liga match of 2024-25.

Speaking after the game, Real Madrid manager Ancelotti revealed a ‘problem’ for his side as he faced questions from the media.

‘We lacked balance,’ Ancelotti said. ‘I am not happy with the draw because we could have done better.

‘We need more attitude. We can learn a lot from this game because it seems clear where we could have a problem.’

Mbappe is regarded to be one of the best strikers – if not the best striker – in world football, conjuring up 256 goals and 108 goals in 308 games for PSG.

He helped France to World Cup glory in 2018 and a runner-up finish four years later as he scored a hat-trick in the 2022 final.

The 25-year-old was linked to Arsenal and Liverpool before his move to Real Madrid – but both English clubs did not want to break their wage structures.

It was believed that Mbappe was particularly keen on Arsenal because he loves Thierry Henry and would have been open to following a similar career path.

Real Madrid was always the more likely destination, though, and many have tipped the Frenchman to take Los Blancos to new heights.
