The LaDMA), in the Greater Accra Region, has trained at least 90 residents in facial, interior and exterior decorations and catering in order to enable them to set up their own businesses.

The 12-week event, which was financed with money from the assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF), was aimed at equipping beneficiaries with the requisite knowledge and skills, to be gainfully employed and self-reliant.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony last Friday at La, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of LaDMA, Solomon Kotey Nikoi, noted that training in entrepreneurship and vocational skills were on the ascendancy worldwide.

He, therefore, stated that there was the need for the assembly to step up efforts in training the youth in such sectors to make them more resourceful.

Mr Nikoi said all the beneficiaries were presented with starter packs to help them set up in their own businesses.

Furthermore, Mr Nikoi noted that the assembly’s role in development was not only in investing in physical infrastructures, but also to develop human resources by providing the youth with skills to enable them to secure their own jobs to be able to contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.

“The work of the assembly is not to provide infrastructure development alone in terms of schools, roads, hospitals and others, but also to support the people living in the community in terms of training and financial support to upgrade and add value to themselves to enhance productivity, “he explained.

Mr Nikoi hinted that the assembly had arranged with some institutions to engage the beneficiaries in various fields for on-the-job training for three months after which the dedicated ones would be employed.

He said those with the National Vocational Institute Technology (NVTI) certificate can undertake proficiency exams.

Moreover, Mr Nikoi tasked the beneficiaries to apply good customer service, adding that “I entreat young people, who would have the opportunity to start their own businesses to demonstrate the highest level of commitment and professionalism to justify the training given you by the assembly and also be good mentors to your brothers and sisters.”

According to the MCE, the assembly asked the youth to register for its next training which is free of cost to enable them to and acquire employable skills.
