FC Barcelona’s financial tussles have been a cause of great concern over the past few years. Heading into the 2024 summer transfer window, many expected to see an upswing in the club’s situation.

However, the economic chains constricting Barcelona’s movement in the transfer market continue to grip the club, even if the bolts may have loosened recently.

And while a return to the 1:1 rule in La Liga was anticipated by many, logistical complications have delayed what once appeared to be an almost certain resolution.

Barcelona will have to bide their time

Indeed, according to Diario AS, all signs point to FC Barcelona having to wait until the end of the year to achieve financial stability and regain the 1:1 rule, which permits signings without having to consider the salary cap.

Barcelona’s return to financial stability has largely depended on easing tensions with Nike as they work to negotiate more favourable contract terms. Progress has been made with verbal commitments.

Still, La Liga has stated that it will not approve the club’s new sponsorship deal with Nike until the agreement is officially confirmed and all financial requirements are satisfied.

The league has given Barcelona a deadline of December 31 to resolve their financial situation and comply with these regulations before they can proceed with signings as planned.

With the Spanish transfer window now closed, Barcelona will likely shift focus to the winter market, where they may identify temporary solutions for their midfield. The severe injury to Marc Bernal and a growing list of absentees could push the club to seek further reinforcements.

In the meantime, Barcelona must navigate their financial constraints and resolve any loose ends with Nike.
