The upcoming summer transfer window promises to be a busy one for Barcelona as the Deco, Joan Laporta, & co. look to make several changes to the squad.

There will likely be a few notable exits for Barça are in need of selling players to generate revenue while the sporting department might also look to offload stars who are not in the scheme of things moving forward.

One player who appears to fall in the latter category is Oriol Romeu. After a solid start to the season upon joining from Girona, the 32-year-old has seen his form and stature in the team take a nosedive.

Girona interested in re-signing Romeu

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Girona would be interested in re-signing Oriol Romeu from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The Catalan club’s manager Michel and sporting director Quique Carcel have not been shy about publicly declaring their admiration for the veteran midfielder.

In fact, only last month, Michel named Romeu as one player he would like to sign from Barcelona, saying:

“If I took one…It would be Oriol Romeu because I know that he is a good person and he is a top player. I don’t know what’s happening to him because I’m not there.”

Romeu has somewhat fallen out of favour at Barcelona, with Andreas Christensen and Ilkay Gundogan now ahead of him in the pecking order when it comes to the pivot midfield position.

In fact, the 32-year-old has not started a single game since the 4-3 defeat to Villarreal in late January. And with the Catalans working to sign a new player in his position, a summer exit would be likely.

A makeweight in the Aleix Garcia deal?

Meanwhile, as is well-known at this point, Barcelona are eager to sign Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia in the summer.

While the Catalans are confident about signing the 26-year-old for a fee of around €14-15 million, the price could be further reduced if Romeu is offered to their local rivals as part of the deal.

Either way, the possibility of Romeu returning to Girona in the summer is very likely.
