La Masia prodigy becomes second-youngest player in history to debut for Barcelona in Barbastro win

Barcelona kickstarted the new year in style as they thrashed minnows UD Barbastro 4-0 to cruise through to the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Pablo Torre and Robert Lewandowski stole the show for Hansi Flick’s side, who went into the game without several key players, including Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Dani Olmo.

As expected, though, the Blaugrana made light work of their opponents from the RFEF Segunda Division.

A night to remember for Toni Fernandez

While it was a fairly routine win for Barcelona, the night at Estadio Municipal de Deportes was one that a certain Toni Fernandez will remember forever.

For tonight, the La Masia forward made his official debut for the Catalans, aged 16 years and 173 days, thus becoming the second-youngest player in history to feature for the club.

Only Lamine Yamal is on top of him when it comes to the list of youngest debutants for the Blaugrana.

Toni, who recently recovered from an injury, had done pre-season with the senior team and made a big impression on Flick.

He has been called up regularly to train with the first-team players and finally got his big breakthrough tonight when he came on in the 81st minute to replace Pablo Torre.

Having now had a taste of first-team football in an official game, the 16-year-old academy wonderkid will hope to continue progressing and getting more minutes under Flick.
