Lacazette in the French team, the return

OL supporters still don’t understand why Alexandre Lacazette is banned from Didier Deschamps’ French team. The Gones captain has scored as much as Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud combined in 2024…

He is banned from Didier Deschamps’ group and he knows it. Alexandre Lacazette has not been called up to the French team since November 2017 (after 16 caps and three goals). His return to Olympique Lyonnais is, however, a great success. The 32-year-old striker finished last season with an XXL record of 31 goals in 39 matches in all competitions. In 2023-2024, he has so far scored 19 goals in 31 outings with Les Gones.

The “General” once again made the difference in favor of Pierre Sage’s team with a goal scored and an assist delivered on the winning goal against AS Monaco (3-2), Sunday afternoon in a Groupama Stadium in delirium. “Laca” has scored 12 goals since the start of the year, having qualified his team for the final of the Coupe de France (May 25 against PSG) with a double against Valenciennes.

Lacazette flies over

In 2024, Lacazette alone has scored as much as Olivier Giroud (7 goals) and Antoine Griezmann (5 goals), the two essential friends in the offensive sector of the Blues with Kylian Mbappé. He also has better statistics than the understudies established by “La Dèche”, Marcus Thuram (6 goals) and Randal Kolo Muani (6 goals), as highlighted by the Twitter account OL Data. Lyon supporters can once again criticize the choice of the national coach…

Obviously, numbers aren’t everything. The former Arsenal Gunner is in no way part of the group that won the 2018 World Cup and failed in the final in 2022. His presence is not essential with a view to Euro 2024, since Deschamps can count on Giroud and the versatile Mbappé and Kolo Muani to play up front. The tricolor train has long passed for Lacazette.
