The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has urged the adoption of sustainable practices, the reduction of ozone-depleting substances, and the implementation of policies that prioritise environmental protection.
In a bid to renew its commitment to environmental sustainability through increased awareness and collaboration with stakeholders, LASEPA joined the global community on Tuesday to celebrate World Ozone Day, with the theme “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action.”
During his opening remarks, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, emphasised the importance of phasing out ozone-depleting substances as a crucial strategy in the fight against climate change.
He noted that the rising demand for cooling systems like refrigerators and air conditioners was worsening global warming.
“The theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action,’ explains the role the Montreal Protocol plays in not only protecting the ozone layer but also driving broader global climate action initiatives. It is a call for us all to adopt sustainable practices, reduce the use of ozone-depleting substances, and support policies that prioritize environmental protection,” Ajayi said.
