Thirty-nine out of 40 lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday lauded President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and pledged their support for the President.
At the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, the lawmaker representing Epe 1, Abiodun Tobun, under Personal Explanation, submitted that President Tinubu was deserving of commendations for his economic strides aimed at reforming the country.
The PUNCH reports that the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was absent at the sitting for the third time since his removal by a majority of the lawmakers on January 13, 2025.
Contributing to the discussion, the lawmaker representing Ojo 1, Ege Adebisi, said, “We are proud that Asiwaju is a product of ours in Lagos, our own father, our own leader and our mentor. We are in full support of our leader, Bola Tinubu, we are giving him our support 100 per cent and of course, the entire members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are fully behind President Tinubu and his lovely wife.”
The Deputy Chief Whip, Ganiyu Sanni, who also backed the call to commend the President, said, “I rise to commend and give accolades to the person that deserves it in the person of our father, our mentor, our national leader and President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu.
“We commend him on the giant strides he has made in putting our economy on the right path.”
On her part, the Speaker said she was joining her colleagues “to appreciate our President, the father to the nation, my father and to thank him for where we are today.”
Meranda said, “I know that he will take us to the Promised Land. When he started, it was a bit rough but with the things we are seeing now, it shows that tomorrow is definitely going to be better.
“Recently, he had also granted approval and support for loan assets for small and medium-scale businesses. Today, the stock market index has also risen to 0.51 per cent. This shows we are getting there.”
Lauding the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Speaker said, “It takes a very courageous woman to put in all her efforts in the dreams and aspirations of her husband; she has been supportive long before Mr. President became the President. It takes a very loyal and humble wife to be that accommodating to politicians at all levels trooping into her private homes while they were still in Lagos.”
The Speaker thereby directed the acting Clerk to write a letter of commendation to President Tinubu.
