Lagos, Ogun police begin joint patrols on Lagos-Ibadan expressway
The Lagos State and Ogun State Police Commands have commenced a joint patrol on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to prevent crime and criminality in the area.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday.
According to Hundeyin, the joint patrols will cover Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange.
He urged motorists not to panic at the sight of increased police patrols on the travel route.
He wrote, “As part of efforts to enhance security on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos State Police Command and its Ogun State counterpart have commenced joint patrols of Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange.
“The patrol teams from the Lagos State Command will comprise mainly the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
“Motorists are, therefore, enjoined not to panic at the sight of increased police patrols, particularly the RRS, as it is a proactive measure to prevent crime and criminality on this stretch of road.”
The PUNCH reported in December 2023 that some suspected gunmen said to be dressed in military uniform allegedly kidnapped seven persons along the Fidiwo area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and one person was shot dead while escaping the attack.
In January 2024, gunmen also abducted the chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Philip Aivoji, at the Ogere area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
