The past 24 hours have been turbulent for Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal, to say the least.

After his father, Mounir Nasraoui, was brutally stabbed in a parking lot in Mataro last night and hospitalised, the youngster and his family have understandably been very affected.

While Yamal did not go to the medical facility to visit his father, he spoke with him on the phone earlier today and calmed down. As it stands, his father is out of danger.

Reported to training

Despite the horrific events in the past 24 hours, Yamal arrived normally to train with the team on Thursday in preparation for the league curtain-raiser on Saturday as revealed by SPORT.

At the club facilities, he received extensive love and support from both teammates and the coaching staff after going through the difficult moments.

With his father’s prognosis now favourable, Yamal is thus likely to participate in Barcelona’s clash against Valencia at the weekend and possibly even start on the night.

After all, he made his first appearance under Hansi Flick in the Joan Gamper clash and appeared to be in fine touch on the night.

A season with responsibility

The teenage sensation starts the new season amidst very different circumstances from the one he made his debut in last time around.

Now a seasoned first-teamer and a regular in the Spanish national team, there is a sense of expectation around Yamal to lead Barcelona’s attack.

At 17 years of age, it will indeed be imperative for the management to utilise his services with caution. Given his quality and skill, however, few others in the squad can recreate the impact he delivers.

It will be interesting to see how the youngster adapts to the pressure and the new system in place.
