LAPO Microfinance Bank Limited has collaborated with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture to launch a tree-planting initiative aimed at addressing climate change and enhancing environmental sustainability.

In a statement on Thursday, the partnership was formalised during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony held at the IITA headquarters in Ibadan.

It added that the initiative aligned with LAPO Microfinance Bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability and aimed to counteract environmental degradation and its adverse effects on Nigerian communities by planting thousands of trees across key locations.

The Executive Director of Corporate Services at LAPO Microfinance Bank, Gloria Bako, highlighted the initiative’s significance, stating, “LAPO Microfinance Bank has consistently led in promoting environmental causes in Nigeria.

This partnership with IITA aligns with our ESG objectives and reinforces our commitment to mitigating climate change impacts and benefiting our environment and communities.”

Also, the Deputy Director-General of Partnerships for Delivery at IITA, Kenton Dashiell, commented, “This partnership aims to provide small support that can lead to significant impacts. We anticipate that our collaboration on this tree-planting initiative, alongside other areas of mutual interest, will yield numerous positive outcomes.”
