Larry David Remembers Friend & ‘Curb’ Co-Star Richard Lewis As “The Funniest And Also The Sweetest” Person

Richard Lewis and Larry David became inextricably linked in the public mind after Lewis was cast in David’s Emmy-winning Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2000. But their connection goes back much further.

David made note of that today when he paid tribute to Lewis, who passed away last night.

“Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me,” David wrote in a statement shared by HBO. “He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

Lewis began what would arguably be his signature role – based, fittingly enough, on himself – in 2000 when he was cast by his childhood friend Larry David on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. The two New Yorkers had met at summer camp when they were 12 and re-established their friendship on the New York comedy circuit a decade later.
