The Lagos State Government has empowered 200 retiring civil servants with life skills and economic support.

Speaking on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the four-week training programme, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Bolaji Dada, stated that the retirees, who came from across Lagos, were trained in various vocational skills, including make-up and headgear stoning, catering, throw pillow making, paint production, soap making, hairstyling, event planning, and decoration.

They were also equipped with start-up packs to aid their economic relief and self-reliance and transport fare during the ceremony, held at the Women Development Centre, Agege.

Dada said, “This event marks not just the end of a training programme but the beginning of new opportunities and pathways towards a brighter future for each and every one of you. In addition to the short-term skill acquisition training programme, beneficiaries are equipped and sensitised to entrepreneurial skills, health talks, the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, and Environmental Health and Safety Rules.”

She encouraged the participants to fully leverage the skills they had acquired and to make a significant impact in their communities.

“To the participants, I commend you for your hard work, dedication, and resilience throughout this training programme. You have taken a significant step towards improving your lives and the lives of your families. The skills and knowledge you have acquired are invaluable assets that can transform your economic circumstances. Remember, it is not merely about learning; it’s about applying what you’ve learned in practical ways that can lead to sustainable income generation and growth,” she said.

The Permanent Secretary of WAPA, Mrs Oluyemi Kalesanwo, praised the retiring civil servants for their willingness to adapt, learn, and embrace new skills, noting that their resilience and courage were exemplary.

She also expressed appreciation to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Dada for their support.
