Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe has increased Manchester City’s chances of keeping Erling Haaland.
The Premier League winners want to keep the Norwegian striker at the Etihad until at least 2029. Additionally, they are keen to renegotiate Haaland’s buy-out clause, which is set to kick in this summer at a value of £171 million.
It coincides with mounting rumors in Spain that Haaland, who has previously been linked to the 14-time Champions League winners, is looking to relocate to the Spanish capital in two years. Haaland is reportedly dissatisfied with his life in the Manchester region.
When Haaland was deciding whether to stay at Borussia Dortmund a year and a half ago, Madrid made an attempt to sign him. However, Karim Benzema’s position as the star player at the Bernabeu at the time led him to choose a transfer to City, who activated his £51 million buy-out clause in the summer of 2022.
Now, another Frenchman has reportedly thwarted Haaland’s desire to join Los Blancos.
In the most recent development in Mbappe’s protracted transfer controversy, it has been revealed during the past week that Madrid want the PSG star.
At the end of his contract this season, Mbappe will leave the Ligue 1 winners, with Real Madrid being his likely destination.
There has been speculation in Spain that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to sign the 25-year-old this summer before focusing on Haaland when his release clause decreases to £150 million the following year.
However, The Mirror believes that neither player would appreciate that proposal and that it would be extremely expensive.
The two goal machines believe that playing together will lessen their prospects of being regarded as the world’s top player since they view each other as competitors for the Ballon d’Or.
Before signing with the Treble champions, Haaland had not even entertained the thought of joining PSG. Nonetheless, the formidable Norwegian hopes to don the renowned white shirt of Madrid at some point in his career.
